All Inclusive Therapy Children & Young People

Are you looking for a counsellor who understands the unique needs of children with neurodiversity and physical disabilities?

I’m passionate about creating a safe and supportive space where your child can feel comfortable expressing themselves, even if that means running around the room or taking breaks from direct interaction.

I’ll help your child understand their physical disabilities, build self-esteem, and develop coping strategies tailored to their individual needs.

Life is full of opportunities and hurdles to overcome, and its essential that children and young people have a strong sense of self, and are able to draw from a toolkit of coping tools, in order to navigate life’s challenges as best they can and reach their full potential.

I will work with your child /young person with an evidence-based approach integrative approach. I draw upon several therapeutic models including CBT and use techniques that are personised to your child.

Children come to counselling to speak about issues that make them anxious, depressed or just simply don’t make sense. I help children understand their uniqueness, embrace their strengths and work though their challenges.

CPCAB Diploma Therapeutic Counselling

I individually prescribe to your child to process complex feelings and through expression. As a counsellor, I embrace a responsive and flexible approach, offering an empathic, non-judgemental and safe space for you/child to explore and express feelings and thoughts around life experiences and challenges being faced in your own chosen way, whether it is through talking therapy or through various creative/play/art -based mediums.

I support parents and carers and feel that it is important that we are all working together in the child’s best interest.

Safety and support

I cannot thank Rebecca enough for all the support she gave me with understanding and processing the feelings I had around my daughters diagnosis.

She made me feel less alone and validated my feelings which was so important to me. She made me realise that the diagnosis my daughter has doesn’t have to consume my life and that there even some positives to it!

I highly recommend counselling with Rebecca, it was so valuable and the advice given was exactly what I needed! Thank you

I work integratively, which means that I utilise a number of different theoretical modalities in tailoring a unique approach that best suits you in a creative way. I also use CBT techniques which are proven to be very effective and help overcome anxiety.

CPCAB Diploma Therapeutic Counselling, About Balance

I was at a point in my life where I found it difficult to talk anyone that understood what I was going through. Every time I talked about my problems I just burst out crying and walked away. So it was incredibly hard, as I felt that I was bottling everything up. The stress and turmoil that this was  putting on my mental health was  unnerving and I knew I couldn’t go on like this.

Thankfully due to being a member of Dorset Childrens’ Foundation I was able to access counselling from Rebecca. Immediately I was put at ease and was able to express what problems were being caused on a daily basis and the mental anguish I was going through. I felt so much better for talking to Rebecca and just letting it all out! I even discussed my OCD which I have never openly spoken to anyone about and i’ve had it 30+  years. That just goes to show how good a counsellor Rebecca is and how comfortable I felt talking to her.

It’s hard for anyone to understand when you have a child who has SEN the immense pressure that you are put under a daily basis, but Rebecca gave me very useful advice and guidance and I can’t thank her enough for this. I am now able to look at things more objectively, to not get as stressed out as I used to be, and have started to live my life more. So, I am eternally grateful for the counselling that I received.

Rebecca gave me back my son, he is now a lot happier, more confident, he is hardly having any meltdowns now as you have given him techniques to manage his anger. You did an amazing job with my son

Talk to Someone Like You

I often that feel that, as parent carers, we are overlooked in society and expected to ‘just get on with it’, preferably quietly! There is little to no help available for our children, and it seems that this is mirrored when it comes to finding support for ourselves. It’s so easy to carry on, day after day, putting the needs of your child first and having neither the time nor the energy to think about ourselves.

To have the opportunity to talk to someone like you, who not only has lived experience of parenting a child with a disability but also the considerable skills to be able to offer actual psychological support, has for me been absolutely invaluable. I’ve felt seen, heard and validated. And I’ve left our sessions feeling so much calmer and with positive strategies to help me going forward.

What can I do for you?

adapted from an anonymous poem from Texas counselling and family violence unit

I am here to listen, not to work miracles

I am here to help you discover what you are feeling, not to make things go away

I am here to help you identify your options, not to decide for you what you should do

I am here to discuss steps with you, not to take the steps for you

I am here to help you discover your own strengths, not to rescue you and leave you vulnerable

I am here to help you to discover that you can help yourself, not to take responsibility for you

I am here to help you to choose, not to make it unnecessary for you to make difficult choices

I am here to provide support for your change
